It’s not about looking, it’s about seeing; recognizing the faces around us, celebrating our differences and identifying our common ground. Individually, we are the DNA that creates our community. We have different roles, but they all amount to the rise or fall of our city. Outsiders take us for dead, but a single glance into our eyes snuffs out that idea. Within every wrinkle, pupil, scowl, grin, squint and pose, the passion and fervor of our people radiates. Nothing that’s supposed to be this dead has ever looked more alive. Don’t romanticize us, don’t dismiss us, just look Forward and you’ll see us. This is a portrait of Detroit.
